Covestro India’s Greater Noida Plant ISCC PLUS Certified

Release time:

2025-06-20

Covestro India has marked a significant achievement in its sustainability journey with the ISCC PLUS certification of its Greater Noida polycarbonate compounding facility. Awarded on May 5, 2025, the certification enables the site to produce the RE series of renewable-attributed polycarbonates under Covestro’s CQ (Circular Intelligence) product portfolio. These materials are widely used across automotive, electrical and electronics, and healthcare industries, supporting their efforts to reduce carbon emissions and meet climate targets.

North India’s Flagship Site Joins Global Certified Network

The Greater Noida facility is North India’s largest polycarbonate compounding site. It is now among the few in the region to achieve ISCC PLUS certification. With this recognition, it becomes part of Covestro’s global network of ISCC PLUS certified manufacturing sites. This strengthens the company’s ability to supply sustainable polycarbonates to customers in India and key global regions.

Leadership Perspectives: Driving Traceability and Competitive Edge

Anand Srinivasan, Managing Director and Head of Engineering Plastics ISC at Covestro India, commented, “Achieving ISCC PLUS certification underscores our strong commitment to sustainability by ensuring responsible sourcing and traceability of materials throughout our value chain. At the same time, it enhances our global competitiveness, opens new market opportunities, and meets the growing demand for more sustainable solutions.”

Sustainable Production Using Mass Balance Approach

Covestro will produce its ISCC PLUS-certified polycarbonates using a mass-balance approach within its existing infrastructure. This method enables the incorporation of renewable raw materials into the supply chain while maintaining performance standards. It helps reduce the carbon footprint of final products without requiring significant changes to existing operations.

Site-Level Impact: Supporting Climate Goals and Regional Supply

Arun Ram, Site Manager, Greater Noida, shared, “The ISCC PLUS accreditation allows us to offer tremendous value to our customers. Our production chain is now more sustainable—from sourcing and production in APAC, EMEA, and NAFTA regions to compounding here in Greater Noida. Makrolon® RE, part of the RE series, provides an excellent option for customers looking to advance their climate goals.”

Advancing Circular Economy and Climate Neutrality

ISCC PLUS is an internationally recognized certification system for biomass, bio-based materials, and circular feedstocks. It ensures sustainability and traceability across the entire value chain. This certification reflects Covestro’s broader commitment to embracing the circular economy and achieving climate neutrality by 2050.

Strengthening Market Leadership in Sustainable Polymers

By offering ISCC PLUS-certified products from its Greater Noida site, Covestro reinforces its position as a sustainability leader in India’s polymer industry. This strategic move also responds to the rising demand for environmentally responsible materials in both domestic and global markets.

As per the press release, India is sharpening its focus on sustainable development. In line with this, Covestro remains committed to expanding its CQ portfolio. The company aims to support industries in shifting to resource-efficient, climate-friendly materials—without compromising on quality or performance.
